The foundation of Koya University has been built on 11th October 2003. Since that time, it has been grown noticeably, within only 7 years the number of the departments has been increased into 34 departments. In 2010, Koya University has been switched its structure from colleges to faculty systems to enhance the interactions between similar sciences. Koya University has many characters including its location on a side between the two wonderful mountains (Bawaji and Haibat-Sultan) and possession of the campus that consists of the academic departments, administrations, the students and staff accommodation. However, the major character of Koya University can be considered as a fast growing compared with other surrounded universities in Kurdistan. Moreover, there are some departments in Science and Engineering that are considered as unique specializations among Kurdistanian and even Iraqi Universities such as Petroleum Engineering, Geotechnics Engineering, Clinical Psychology and Biochemistry. It's a great honor for the people in Koya to be among the prestigious universities in Kurdistan in such a short period of time.
